GPS is necessary on backcountry trails: Oakridge, River, and Kingsnake. These trails may be difficult to follow. River Trail is not recommended at this time due to the volume of downed trees and debris from recent storms.

Weston Lake Overlook (Stop 12) on the elevated Boardwalk is closed at this time due to storm damage. The Boardwalk is an out and back trail at this time.

Astonishing biodiversity exists in Congaree National Park, the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States. Waters from the Congaree and Wateree Rivers sweep through the floodplain, carrying nutrients and sediments that nourish and rejuvenate this ecosystem and support the growth of national and state champion trees.
